%CO:A,12,70%%C%%H2%CALL LOGGER- TELEPHONE CALL TIMING/PRICING PROGRAM%H2%

%C%Amended and updated by Max Glaskin

%H1%Installation and initial requirements%H1%

%JR% The program may be installed in any directory. As supplied, the
%JR%program resides in a directory /LIBRARY on the default RAM device;
the data file used to keep a log of calls is in the root directory.

%JR% To change the location of the data file, edit the program itself
using BASIC, and change the variable 'file$' in line 360.

%H1%User Input%H1%

%JL% Mainly, input is be selection of options displayed on the screen.
%JR%If you are re-prompted for anything, it means that the value you
input was invalid.

%JR% When starting to time a call, items for inclusion in the data file
%JL%are asked for. The Telephone number is free-form: you could quite
easily enter 'Prestel' as the number; this will be accepted.

%JR% To be able to calculate the cost of the call, the rate must be
entered: (l)ocal,a,b or b1.

%JL% When calculating the cost, the program may be suspended or the
%JR%computer switched off with no ill effects. Do not change the clock
([]T) though, as this will obviously mess up the time used by BASIC.

%H1%Program Output%H1%

%JR% Output of the log file may be routed to the screen, printer or a
%JR%file. The screen will pause every seven lines, so you can actually
%JL%see the file. Output to the printer is routed through the Printer
%JR%Driver. The only code used is the Bold code, so if this is set up
correctly some parts will be emboldened.

%JR% The output to a file is plain text. It can be loaded into PipeDream
using the 'Plain Text' option.

%H1%Calculation of the cost%H1%

%JR% The calculation of the cost is for standard BT exchanges: multiples
%JR%of units rounded up. The program will handle correctly calls that
%JL%cross a charging boundary: e.g. start at 7.50am (cheap) and end at
8.10am (standard).

The program does not handle Mercury charging at present.
%P0%
%H1%Altering the Cost%H1%

%JR% The costs used are in DATA statements near the end of the program
%JR%and are in seconds per unit for each of the charging times and bands.
%JR%These, and the cost for each unit will need to be changed if BT
change them.

%H1%Improvements forthcoming%H1%

%JR% 1. Output in spreadsheet format for straight loading into PipeDream.
 2. Call timing and costing for Mercury and International calls.
 3. Summarising of costs by category
