Windows 98 Supplement File Diskette

What This Diskette Does
-----------------------
This diskette provides registry patches, 1280x1024 LCD panel
resolution support, and updated UNIMODEM drivers.

      These registry patches include the followings:

   (Fix-1)Fix for enumerating Intel 82371AB(PIIX4) correctly.
          This registry patch fixes an error in Device Manager
          after installing Windows 98 in APM mode. PIIX4 is
          enumerated by both PnP BIOS and Windows 98.

   (Fix-2)Fix for System does not to go to suspend when the
          system is docked into IBM SelectaDock-III or system does
          not go to suspend when the PCMCIA modem card is inserted
          in the PC card slot while your modem application is
          opening the modem port.

Installation Guide
------------------

1.) How to apply Registry Patch Fix-1.
    This Fix-1 is only for users with Windows 98 already installed or
    who plan on upgrading to Windows 98 on the following systems:
    - ThinkPad 600, 600E, 760E, 760ED, 760EL, 760ELD, 760XD, 760XL,
      765D, 765L, 770, 770E, 770ED, 770X, 770Z    in APM mode.

NOTE:
For Windows 95 users, please do the following steps BEFORE upgrading
to Windows 98.  Once the patch is installed, start the Windows 98
upgrade process.

1-1. Boot the system.
1-2. Insert the Windows 98 Supplement File Diskette into diskette drive.
1-3. Click on "Start" then "Run...".    This will open the "Run" window.
1-4. Type A:\PIXX4\APM2APM\APM2APM.reg   and click the OK button.
   The following window is displayed:
   "Registry Editor" Are you sure you want to add the information
    A:\PIXX4\apm2apm\apm2apm.reg to the registry ?
1-5. Select "Yes"
   Successful window message is displayed.
1-6. Select "OK"


2.) How to apply Registry Patch Fix-2.
    This Fix-2 fixes the following problems:
    -  System will not go into suspend mode while on a docking station.
    -  System will not go into suspend mode while using a PCMCIA modem card.

    This Fix-2 is only for the following users.
    - Windows 98 installed on the following systems: ThinkPad 600, 760E,
     760ED, 760EL, 760ELD, 760XD, 760XL, 765D, 765L, 770, 770E, 770ED.

2-1. Insert the Windows 98 Supplement File Diskette into diskette drive.
2-2. Open Start menu -> Run...
2-3. Click on Start --> Run...    This will open the "Run" window.
2-4. Type A:\DOCKSUSP\DOCKSUSP.reg and click OK button.
     The following window is displayed:
       "Registry Editor" Are you sure you want to add the information
        A:\DOCKSUSP\DOCKSUSP.reg to the registry ?
2-5. Select "Yes"
     Successful window message is displayed.
2-6. Select "OK"
2-7. Reboot the system.

   When this is applied, you can make the suspend without turning
   off the power of the docking station or if you use the PCMCIA
   modem card, system  goes into full suspend.


3. Update support in the Monitor.inf for 1280x1024 resolution on LCD
   panel. This Fix is for the ThinkPad 770X with SXGA panel user only.

3-1. Start Windows 98
3-2. Click [Start] Button and move cursor Programs] -> [MS-DOS
     Prompt].
3-3. Insert Windows 98 Supplement Diskette into a floppy Drive.
3-4. Type at command prompt as follows:

      COPY A:\RTMINF\MONITOR.INF C:\WINDOWS\INF
        and Press Enter Key

3-5. Type 'Y' and press Enter key when asked  "Overwrite
     C:\Windows\inf\MONITOR.INF (Yes/No/All)?".
3-6. Type EXIT at command prompt.
3-7. Close MS-DOS Prompt.
3-8 Restart the computer.


4. Update Unimodem drivers
   This fix is for users with Windows 98 in APM mode on the following
   systems:
   - ThinkPad 760C, 760CD, 760E, 760ED, 760XD, 765D with the Mwave
     chipset
   - ThinkPad 600, 600E, 770, 770ED, 770X with the internal ACP Modem

4-1. Start Windows 98.
4-2. Insert Windows 98 Supplement File Diskette into a floppy drive.
4-3. Click [Start] Button and move cursor Programs] -> [MS-DOS
     Prompt].
4-4. From the command prompt, go to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM (or SYSTEM
     subdirectory under the directory where Windows 98 installed)
4-5. Rename a couple of files as follows.
       Type "REN UNIMODEM.VXD UNIMODEM.BAK" and press ENTER
       Type "REN UNIMDM.TSP UNIMDM.BAK" and press ENTER
4-6. Copy new files as follows.
       Type "COPY A:\MSQFE\UNIMODEM.VXD C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM"
       Type "COPY A:\MSQFE\UNIMDM.TSP C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM"
4-7. Copy VCOMM.VXD
       Type "COPY A:\MSQFE\VCOMM.VXD C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32"
4-8. Reboot the computer.
