A free program to improve your ear skills!

---------------------
INSTALLATION
---------------------
Click on the setup.exe file and follow instructions.

--------------------
REQUIREMENTS
--------------------
You just need Windows 9x with a soundcard. Be sure the MIDI out and WAVE volume controls on the synthesizer (the loud-speaker icon on the Windows applications bar (right bottom of the screen)) are set at a reasonable value (more than 0!). Otherwise you won't hear anything.

--------------------
DESCRIPTION
--------------------
A.P.T 1.0 contains four sections: Melody, Intervals, Chords, Scales
As you can guess you can train your ear recognising single notes, intervals, chords, scales.

You can always use the program in two different ways:

1) No test
2) Test mode.

You can switch between the two options using the option control in the downleft corner of each section.

1) NO TEST

When you first enter the program you are in the NO TEST mode.
Clicking on the NEW button you will ear one a note or a interval (2 notes) or a chord (3 or more notes) depending in which section you are.
In the melody section you can also select to listen to up to 10 notes at a time, choosing the delay between them.

The single note or the interval or the chord or the scale belong to the ones you can select with the check controls on the left. In the melody section you can also select the octaves the notes produced belong to. I suggest using Guitar or Piano octaves (press GUITAR or PIANO buttons).

To select the main checks you can use the ALL, NONE, etc command buttons.

Once you hear the note(s) (interval/chord/scale) you can find out what it was using the little keyboard on the top (melody section) or the small buttons beside the checks (intervals, chords and scales sections).

You can repeat the note(s) (interval/chord/scale) chosen by the computer whenever you want using the REPEAT button.

After you've tried you can verify your answer with the REVEAL button an the name of the note (interval/chord/scale) will appear in the yellow box.

In all the sections you can choose if the root (fundamental note) is fixed (C or C# or D ...) or random.

2)TEST MODE

Everytime you press NEW a note(s) (interval/chord/scale) is proposed and your guess is evaluated.

You have only one possibility to guess it. You choose your answer using the same buttons you used to guess notes (interval/chord/scale) in the No test mode. When you make your choose no note (interval/chord/scale) will be produced. The result of your answer is highlighted in the box beside the yellow one and you can hear a RIGHT or NO sound bite. If you are guessing more than one note in the melody section you have to choose them in a row because no correction is allowed.

In the Test frame (bottom of the sections) you can see the result of your tests. In Test Mode the REVEAL button is obviously not enabled.
With the RESET button you start a new series of tests.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Options menu.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Click it to change the volume (MIDI velocity) from 0 to 127, the MIDI channel (1 to 16), the panning (left to right) and the instrument (MIDI patch from 0 to 127). I suggest using your own instrument, it's easier.

When using continuous sound instrument as church organ (n 17) you can stop the sound using the STOP NOISE button.

Other buttons are completely self explaining, so just try them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
