1. WHAT IS STAMPCAT?
----------------------------------------

StampCAT is a powerful database program designed to help you catalog
and manage your stamp collection. StampCAT will help you know what
you have, where it is, and the total value of your collection.
Designed for the Windows environment, StampCAT is comprehensive,
intuitive, and easy to use.

StampCAT has a comprehensive set of fields, enabling you to catalog
a wide range of information: country, catalog number, face value,
date of issue, design, topic, color, perforation, condition,
watermark, postmark (type, city and date), purchase date, location,
price, market value, quantity, comments, and more.

You can work with an unlimited number of databases. This means you
can split your collection into different catalogs. StampCAT allows
you to change the data field names to suit your personal preferences.
You can also hide the data fields you don't want to use. Ultimately,
this means you can customize the StampCAT database to suit your needs.

You can effectively find the information you are looking for by using
the search and filter features. StampCAT allows you search your
database with any combination of data fields and operators.

StampCAT includes a report designer that lets you create professional
looking reports with exactly the layout you want. Use one of the more
than 50 pre-defined reports, or create your own reports from scratch.
You have full control over data fields, groups, sort order, columns,
fonts, colors, paper size, margins and print orientation. StampCAT
lets you preview reports on screen before printing, or save reports
in virtually any file format.

You can quickly generate documents to be published on the Internet.
The statistics module allows you to analyze your collection in a
variety of ways. Use the backup function to make backup copies of
your valuable data.

StampCAT uses popup menus for quick feature access and navigation.
StampCAT comes with a sample database to get you started and a
comprehensive context sensitive on-line help system.

5. VERSION HISTORY
----------------------------------------------------

5.10.00 - February 12, 2001

* StampCAT now handles images stored externally (that is, the database
  only contains a link to the image file) the same way as images
  stored in the database if you link to either a BMP or JPEG file.
  This means that you can view images without using an external image
  viewer, and that external images can be included in reports.
* You can now preview the image in the file selection dialog when you
  add new images.
* The Issued field is now available in the Statistics module.
* Specify 99/99/9999 as the default value for date fields to have
  StampCAT insert the current date as default value when adding new
  stamps.
* Added a link to the user forum (on the Help menu).
* BUG FIX: Problems grouping on a boolean (yes/no) field.
* BUG FIX: Problem with decimals in Statistics module.

5.00.01 - October 18, 2000

* Short cut 'Ctrl + O' (Stamp -> Clone) is now available again.
* BUG FIX: Access Violation when exiting the program.

5.00.00 - August 23, 2000

* Many exciting new features, like filtering and grouping, in the
  Browse window.
* You can now print the contents of the browse list simply by
  clicking the Print button on the toolbar.
* In addition to printing or previewing reports, StampCAT can now
  send a report to a file. The following file formats are supported:
  * Adobe Acrobat
  * Archive - a special file format that lets you store report output
    so that it can be previewed and printed later, without re-accessing
    the data from which the report was generated. While archiving is
    very useful for maintaining historical records, it can also be
    used as a method of report distribution. A separate freeware
    application to read these archive files is available for download
    from our web site. Feel free to give this application to friends
    or colleagues, who can then preview and print your archived reports.
  * Microsoft Excel
  * HTML
  * HTML/CSS2 - uses Cascading Style Sheets (version 2) for better
    layout control.
  * JPEG
  * Lotus 1-2-3
  * Quattro Pro
  * Rich Text Format - most word processor applications can open rtf
    files.
  * Text file - allows you to emulate the layout of your reports in a
    text file format.
* Enhanced Statistics module.
* Sample database renamed to Sample2000.mdb.
