SUBJECT:
Vendor Information System for Innovative Treatment Technologies, Version 4.0

EPA IDENTIFICATION NUMBER:
EPA 542-C-95-001 (Program)
EPA 542-N-95-008 (Information Bulletin)

ABSTRACT:
The Vendor Information System for Innovative Treatment Technologies (VISITT) is a database developed by the Technology Innovation Office (TIO) of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER). VISITT is a part of a broad effort to promote the use of innovative treatment technologies for the cleanup of soil and groundwater contaminated by hazardous and petroleum waste. By taking advantage of current information technology capabilities, EPA anticipates that VISITT can help enhance the transfer of information about innovative technologies.

VISITT is a user-friendly, menu-driven database system that enables the user to perform searches for technologies based on their own criteria. VISITT is designed to capture current information on the availability, performance, and cost of innovative technologies to remediate contaminated waste sites. VISITT enables federal and state officials, private sector environmental professionals, and university faculty and researchers to screen innovative technologies for potential application to specific contaminated sites. VISITT also is an excellent channel through which innovative technology companies can market their capabilities. VISITT is updated annually. VISITT version 4.0 contains 325 technologies provided by 204 vendors.

To install VISITT after downloading, simply copy the contents of the compressed file on to a directory of your choice in your hard disk drive, and uncompress the .zip file. Since VISITT is stored in a compressed format, the software PKZIP is required to decompress VISITT after downloading.

To run VISITT, simply type VISITT and strike <Enter>. The main keys that operate the system are: 1) the enter key to select; 2) the arrow keys to move the cursor; 3) the escape key to backtrack through the menu; and 4) the F1 key to access on-line help. The operation of the system is self-explanatory. Please call the VISITT help line at 1-800-245-4505 if you have any questions about operating VISITT. A printed user manual also is available.

It is recommended that those who downloaded VISITT from the Internet register with EPA as users of the program. Registered users will receive information about any changes in or updates of VISITT in the future. To register, simply choose the "Registration" option on VISITT's main menu and follow the on-screen instructions. There is no charge for the registration.
