T001 Jack and the Beanstalk (Part II)
T004 Then Jack jumped out of the oven.
T005He grabbed a bag of gold, and he ran
T006and he ran until he came to the
T007beanstalk.
T009 The bag of gold was so heavy, Jack
T010let it fall. It fell down down down
T011into his mother's garden.
T013 Then Jack climbed down and climbed
T014down. And at last he was home.
T016 "Mother! Mother!" Jack called.
T017"Look at this!"
T021 And he showed her the bag of gold.
T024 For a long time Jack and his mother
T025had plenty of money. But one day all
T026the money was gone.
T028 "Well," said Jack to his mother. "I
T029will try my luck again."
T031 So he got onto the beanstalk, and
T032he climbed and he climbed and he
T033climbed and he climbed.
T035 At last he came to the road again.
T039 And he found the great big tall
T040house again. And in front of the house
T041was the great big tall woman again.
T043 "Good morning," said Jack, bold as
T044brass. "Please, can you give me some
T045breakfast?"
T047 "You're the same boy who came here
T048before!" said the great big tall
T049woman. "Maybe you can tell me what
T050happened to the bag of gold the giant
T051lost that day."
T053 "Maybe I can," said Jack. "But I am
T054so hungry, I can't talk."
T058 "Then I'll give you something to
T059eat," said the woman.
T061 All at once -- thump thump thump.
T062They heard the giant coming.
T064 The woman hid Jack in the oven. And
T065everything happened as it did before.
T067 The giant said, "Fee fi fo fum."
T069 His wife said, "Don't be silly."
T071 The giant ate his breakfast.
T073 After breakfast, he said, "Wife,
T074bring the hen that lays the golden
T075eggs."
T077 Then the giant said to the hen,
T078"Lay." And the hen laid an egg all of
T079gold.
T081 At last the giant began to get
T082sleepy. His head began to nod. And he
T083began to snore. He snored so loud, the
T084house began to shake.
T086 Jack jumped out of the oven. He
T087grabbed the hen and off he ran. But
T088the hen made a noise, and the giant
T089woke up.
T091 Jack heard the giant call, "Wife,
T092wife, what did you do with my golden
T093hen?"
T096 But that was all Jack heard. He ran
T097to the beanstalk and climbed down like
T098a house-on-fire.
T100 "Mother! Mother! Look at this."
T102 Jack showed his mother the hen.
T104 "Lay," said Jack.
T106 The hen laid an egg all of gold.
T108 Every time Jack said, "Lay," the
T109hen laid a golden egg.
T111 One day Jack said to his mother,
T112"Maybe the giant has more things. I am
T113going to try my luck again."
T115 Jack got onto the beanstalk and he
T116climbed and he climbed and he climbed
T117and he climbed. At last he got to the
T118top.
T120 But this time Jack did not go right
T121to the giant's door. This time he hid
T122behind a tree. He saw the giant's wife
T123go down the road to get some water.
T125 Jack crept into the house and
T126climbed into a big pot. Soon he heard
T127thump thump thump. The giant and his
T128wife came in.
T130 "Fee fi fo fum. I smell the blood
T131of an Englishman," the giant said.
T135 "Do you, my dear?" said the giant's
T136wife. "Well, if it is that rascal Jack
T137you smell, he will be in the oven.
T138That is where he likes to hide."
T140 The giant opened the door. But
T141Jack wasn't there, thank goodness!
T143 "Oh," said the giant's wife, "there
T144you go again! I think you must be
T145smelling the little boy you ate
T146yesterday. Now don't be silly. Eat
T147your breakfast."
T149 The giant sat down to eat. He kept
T150jumping up to look for Jack. But he
T151did not look in the big pot, thank
T152goodness!
T154 After breakfast, the giant said,
T155"Wife, bring me my golden harp."
T157 She brought the harp and put it on
T158the table.
T160 "Sing," said the giant.
T162 And the golden harp sang. At last
T163the giant began to get sleepy. His
T164head began to nod. And he began to
T165snore. He snored so loud, the house
T166began to shake. Then Jack crept out of
T167the pot. He was as quiet as a mouse.
T168He crept to the table. He climbed up
T169the table leg. He grabbed the harp.
T170Then he climbed down and began to
T171run.
T174 But the harp called out, "Master!
T175Master!"
T177 The giant woke up. He was just in
T178time to see Jack running off with his
T179harp. Jack ran as fast as he could.
T181 The giant came running after him.
T182Then Jack got onto the beanstalk and
T183began to climb down, down, down.
T185 The giant stopped. He was afraid to
T186climb down the beanstalk.
