X-Finder R.11 Beta 8 and XFS for Ruputer
-- X-Finder now supports Wallpaper display --

[1] Introduction

This Beta 8 should replace Beta 7, where something was wrong
when an icon archive is open under icon mode.

This beta release is not in a full package. Environmental file
and other necessary files are not included. Please use those
bundled with X-Finder R.10.

Your feedback is always welcome. Post your opinion, comments or
request to FPDAE Section 5, FHPPC Section 7 and 13 or send them
by e-mail.

[2] Changes from X-Finder R.11 Beta 6

- Wallpaper support

  X-finder now supports Wallpaper display. The environment
  file should contain following lines.

#Wallpaper
%l	,01	,finder.xbg
#	 |+-Apply Wallpaper 0:No 1:Palmtop only  2:Palmtop and others
#	 +--Hide title line 0:No 1:Hide

  The file finder.xbg should be copied to x-finder directory,
  to display it as the wallpaper. "2:Palmtop and others"
  enables wallpaper in Palmtop screen and in the directories,
  whosepath name contains '^' character.

  Set "Hide title line" to suppress the display of the title
  line and the function keys to the minimum.

  Wallpaper will not be displayed in the split screen.

  - How to make a file for the wallpaper.

  Use PCX/ICN converter PCX2ICN.EXE, a utility created by
  Brahma.

  Prepare PCX format file for wallpaper, finder.pcx, for
  example. Then run

      PCX2ICN finder.pcx finder.xbg

  to make the wallpaper file.

- Memory allocation for DOS process

  Default memory allocation for DOS process is changed from
  'all available' to the value defined by Setup of System
  Manager.

  To change memory allocation, press {Ctrl+Filer}{F5}(System)
  {F8}(Advance) and change the value under DOS.

  To assign all the available memory to DOS process, use '+'
  switch.

- Work directory
  Now a work directory can be assigned. X-Finder uses this
  temporary directory for expanding compressed files or for
  other operations. Environment file should contain following
  lines:

#Wastebasket and work directory
%t	,1	,trash	#temp
			^^^^^
  The description after '#' defines the temporary directory.

- New features for the built-in text viewer

  o TAB key

    {Tab} key now switches TAB between 8 columns and 4 columns.

  o Key definition for the the text viewer

    Key definition is implemented in the built-in text viewer.
    The environment file should contain following lines.

#Key definition of the built-in text viewer
+a	,	,dir
+b	,	,$m {F6}60000{Enter}{Left}
+c	,	,$m {F8}
+d	,	,$m {Right}
+e	,	,$m {Up}
+f	,	,$m {F4}
+j	,	,$m {F6}
+l	,	,$m {F6}
+n	,	,$c %p%c %l
+p	,	,$m {F5}
+s	,	,$m {Left}
+t	,	,$m {F6}1{Enter}
+x	,	,$m {Down}

  o Small font of the built-in text viewer

    Small font of System Manager is now used for DOS 25 line
    mode screen, since the font driver of System Manager did
    not function under non-Japanese environment.

- Infrared (IR) connection

  o wait duration in IR connection

    Wait time value of IR connection is now adjustable.
    Environment file should have following lines.

#Key definition of the built-in text viewer
%m	4

    A value of 4 was found satisfactory for a HPLX or an IBM
    compatible. If you find an instable connection, try to
    increase this value. (Range: 1 to 128)

    Set this value to around 64, when you connect to a Ruputer,
    as follows.

%m	64

  o IR connection with a Ruputer

    1. Server side procedure

       Run XFS.EXF on a Ruputer, which works as a server.

    2. HPLX side procedure

       Press {Menu}{R}{I} to switch to IR mode, set the
       communication speed to 38400 bps and make an access to a
       remote drive. If the link is successfully established,
       an hourglass will be rotated and the contents of the
       remote disk drive will be displayed.

       Modify the RS-232C setting (see below) of finder.env, if
       you like to launch X-Finder with IR mode.

#RS-232C settings
%x	300
#	||+-RS-232C rate   0:115200bps  1:38400bps  2:38400bps(32 MHz)
#	|+--Halfrate	   0:Off  1:On
#	+---Transfer mode  0:Wide 1:Narrow 2:X1 3:Infrared

    A connection with Ruputer is relatively slow.
