What is ADE:

This document assumes that your are familiar with
cc:Mail Automatic Directory Exchange (ADE). If you are
not, please refer to the cc:Mail Automatic Directory
Exchange Reference Manual for more information. In
short, ADE updates allow administrator changes to
directory entries in one post office to be automatically
sent and applied to the directories of other post
    offices and cc:Mail Remote users.

The CCMADE.EXM program allows you to apply updates
to your Local Address Book on the HP100LX.
You can get ADE updates in two ways:

       1. Inbox messages with ADE attachment(s)
(the attachment MUST be named CCMUPDAT)
           or

       2. A single file that contains ADE update records.

NOTE: ADE update files can be large, and contain many addresses.
If your cc:Mail mailbox is located on the C: drive, you
could easily run out of disk space. In this situation,
locating the cc:Mail mailbox on drive A: (memory card)
           is recommended.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR RUNNING PROGRAM:

------------------------------------------------------------
1. Press alt-cc:Mail to bring up the ADE utility

   A. The first screen is created. This first screen
       consists of:

        i. Screen for Copyright information is displayed.

ii. The introduction Dialog Box (See #2 below)

   B. Internal initialization occurs before the
introduction dialog box is displayed. If
Initialization fails, or if cc:Mail has never been
run, an error message is displayed.

------------------------------------------------------------
2. Introduction Dialog Box displays:

   A. "The cc:Mail Automatic Directory Exchange (ADE)
enables you to update your Local Address Book
using update files sent from your Post Office
       Administrator.

Would you like to process all update files in
your Inbox, or just one specific file?"

The following function keys are available:

       i. Inbox function key.

       ii. File function key.

       iii. Cancel function key.

   B. If Inbox function key is selected:

      i. A Dialog Box is displayed:

"Your Local Address Book is currently
being updated. Depending on the size of
the update file, this process may take
            several minutes."

This means the utility is currently processing
all records in the ADE file.

NOTE: In fact, this process may take several hours
depending on the size of the file. It is
recommended that the AC Adapter be plugged
in during this operation. Also, if the
file is very large you should be sure the
target drive has enough available space.

ii. A Sign-off Dialog Box for Inbox ADE message
processing will appear (See #3 below).

      i. The standard File Open Dialog Box
           is displayed.

           successful, either:

check the file CCMADE.LOG for records not
                 processed and see your Administrator."
                 or

             b. "Your ADE update is complete. However,
one or more of your ADE Inbox messages
could not be deleted due to either
                 multiple attachments on the ADE
                 message(s), or a message deletion
                 error."
                 or

             c. "Your ADE update is complete."

iii. If ADE update message processing was NOT
successful, then the appropriate error is
displayed in a General Error Message Box.
           Either:

                or

                or

             e. The user requested the utility to stop
processing by pressing the Cancel button
in the "Update In Progress" dialog box.

   E. ALERT.

This utility will only process 10 ADE Inbox messages per
execution. This is not 10 Inbox messages, but rather
10 ADE Inbox messages. If more then 10 ADE messages are
found in the Inbox, then a warning is displayed at the
end of the execution reminding the user to run this
utility again to process any remaining ADE messages.

                  However, check the file CCMADE.LOG
for records not processed and see
                  your Administrator."
                  or

              b. "Your ADE update is complete.
However, your ADE file could not be
                  deleted. To prevent further errors,

5. The log file CCMADE.LOG contains the following 2 pieces
   of information per line entry:

   A. The ADE file line number that contains the invalid
      information
      and

   B. The name of the ADE file (the file attachment if
processing the Inbox) that did not get completely
applied to user's Local Address Book.

------------------------------------------------------------

6. Please note that there are differences between the cc:Mail
database at the Post Office and on the HP 100LX. There are
also differences in the way the HP 100LX cc:Mail user
interface uses this directory data, compared to other cc:Mail
products. Therefore, it is not possible to completely map
all entries from the Post Office directory to entries in the
Local Address Book. Please be sure to review the CCMADE.LOG
file after processing, and pay some attention to the addresses
created in the Local Address Book.
