    1. What is it ?

    This package was designed to help english and french people to learn
    easily many japanese ideograms. 20 lessons (100 in the complete version)
    will show you:

        * 100 hiragana and 100 katakana syllables
        * 80 kanjis (650 in the complete version)
        * 1600 words (14000 in the complete version)

    Each lesson is followed by a test. Results are memorized. You will see
    your progression.

    2. Installation

    Requirements: A PC with Windows 3.1, Windows 95, or Windows NT.

    The total amount of disk space used is about 2600 kilo bytes (2.6 Mb).

    The package is compressed in one file JAPAPH.ZIP

    1) Create a new directory

    2) Go to this new directory and place there JAPAPH.ZIP.

    3) Uncompress JAPAPH.ZIP using PKUNZIP:

          pkunzip japaph.zip

    4) The following files are extracted and uncompressed:

       JAPALPHA.EXE    Main windows program

       K48X48.F00      Font file (not compatible with Windows font files)

       HIRA_1.EUC      14 files containing japanese words
       KATA_1.EUC
       KI_1_00.EUC, KI_1_01.EUC, KI_1_02.EUC, KI_1_03.EUC, KI_1_04.EUC
       KI_1_05.EUC, KI_1_06.EUC, KI_1_07.EUC,
       KI_5_16.EUC, KI_5_17.EUC, KI_5_18.EUC, KI_5_19.EUC

    5) Under Windows, run JAPALPHA.EXE. you should see
       the main window of the program.

    Some data, including your scores, will be saved in JAPALPHA.INI. This
    file will be created automatically if it does not exist. It resides
    usually in the directory of Windows.

    * To uninstall it, remove all files in the directory, and JAPALHA.INI. *

    This software does not contain any special and annoying trick, such
    as hidden files, timers, or more harmful thingamabob.

    I used some public domain sources:
    The font file is from an unknown author. The program to read the font
    was written by Izumi Ozawa and Stephen Chung of Australia.
    The lists of words were produce with the help of the dictionary of Jim
    Breen of Australia. I checked every word with other sources, so I
    changed some definitions.
    The pictures come from the Corel CD series 65000.

    I program with Borland C. It took me one full year to develop it,
    and I keep on improving it.

    I wrote also a Cobol Compiler for DOS, available as shareware.
