           *****  How To Use The SETUP Program  *****

The SETUP program is a software utility designed exclusively for
Star 9-Pin Printers.  It allows programming of the printers EDS
(Electronic Dip Switches) from the comfort of your personal
computer keyboard.  

I.   INSTALLATION
-----------------
 
IF YOU HAVE A HARD DISK SYSTEM:

1.   Turn on your computer.
2.   At the C> prompt, type MD\LC200 and press Enter.
3.   At the C> prompt, type CD\LC200 and press Enter.
4.   Insert DISK #2 in drive A.
5.   At the C> prompt, type COPY A:\EDS\LC200\*.* and press Enter.
6.   At the C> prompt, type SETLCEDS and press Enter.


IF YOU HAVE A SINGLE FLOPPY DISK SYSTEM:

1.   Insert your DOS disk in Drive A and turn on your computer.
2.   At the A> prompt, remove your DOS disk and insert this disc in
     drive A.
3.   At the A> prompt, type CD\LC200 and press Enter.
4.   At the A> prompt, type SETUP and press Enter.



II.  NAVIGATION
---------------

1.   Use the UP and DOWN Arrow Keys to select the various menus
     and EDS settings.  EDS settings can be selected by
     highlighting a setting in the menu.  
2.   Use the RIGHT Arrow Key to enter a menu.
3.   Use the LEFT Arrow Key to go back to the previous menu. 
     This key can also be used to execute macro programming and
     loading when using the macro options.
4.   The Enter Key can also be used to enter a menu.  This key
     operates in the same manner as the RIGHT Arrow Key.


III. SETUP MENUS
----------------

PLEASE REFER TO YOUR PRINTER USERS MANUAL FOR A DETAILED
DESCRIPTION ON YOUR PRINTER'S VARIOUS EDS SETTINGS.


COMMAND MENU:  Use this menu to set-up EDS settings associated
               with your printers overall operation.  Examples of
               these settings are:  Emulation, Ram Usage, Quiet
               Mode and Graphics Direction.

FONT MENU:     Use this menu to select different Letter Quality &
               Super Letter Quality fonts.

PRINT MENU:    Use this menu to set-up EDS settings associated
               with your printers print mode.  Examples of these
               settings are:  Print Modes, Character Tables, Code
               Pages, Italics and International Character Sets.

PAPER MENU:    Use this menu to set-up EDS settings associated
               with your printers paper handling.  Examples of
               these settings are:  The Optional Automatic
               Sheetfeeder, Paper-Out Detector and Print Area.

FORMS MENU:    Use this menu to set-up EDS settings associated
               with your printers forms handling.  Examples of
               these settings are:  Auto-LF, Carriage Centering,
               Skip Perforation and Page Length. 

SAVE MENU:     Use this menu to save settings to the printer. 
               The saving and loading of macros can also be
               accomplished.


IV.  MACROS - SAVING & LOADING
-----------------------------------

The SETUP program allows you to save up to eight (8) macros on
your hard or floppy disk.  Macros are useful if you find yourself
using different EDS settings for different software packages.

MACRO SAVING:  EDS Settings can be saved as a macro by entering
the Save Menu.  Select the Program Macro option and place the
cursor on the MACRO# that you would like the settings assigned
to.  Press the LEFT Arrow Key or Enter Key to execute macro
programming. 

MACRO LOADING:  Previous EDS Settings can be loaded by entering
the Save Menu.  Select the Load Macro option and place the cursor
on the MACRO# that you would like to load.  Press the LEFT Arrow
Key or Enter Key to execute macro loading.  You can view the
macro settings by using the "EDS PREVIEW" screen in the "Program
EDS" option of the Save Menu.

EXECUTING MACROS FROM DOS:  Programmed macros can also be
executed from the DOS prompt by using the following command,
"COPY/B macro_name.ext PRN" (i.e. COPY/B MACRO1.ZX PRN).




V.   LIMITATIONS
----------------

The SETUP program is not designed to work with a serial
interface.
