1. Introduction
------------------
This is a complete sample installation to get your SoundBlaster Live working in MSDOS 6.22.

It includes all the DOS driver files needed, as well as a sample CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT and some FAQs that I have collected during my search on the net.
The DOS driver files are taken from the DOSDRV directory
which is created by Windows 98 during the installation of the SBlive drivers.

2. System configuration tested
----------------------------------
My system configuration:

- Athlon Thunderbird 900MHz running at 978MHz
- Motherboard Asus A7V with Via KT133 chipset
- 40GB IBM HD (Master) at Promise UDMA100 IDE controller
  (build onto Asus board)
- Leadtek GeForce2 MX AGP graphics card
- TV card Hauppauge WinTV with Brooktree controller
- Actima DVD rom drive on IDE 0 (Master)
- Plextor PlexWriter 8/4/32 on IDE 1 (Master)

- SoundBlaster Live! Valu (taken from Dell OEM PC system)

As you can see, quite a lot of different stuff.

3. Contents of this ZIP file
---------------------------------
You will find 3 directories in this ZIP-file:

DOSDRV contains all DOS drivers and utilities, e.g.
           SBEINIT.COM, SBESET.EXE, SBECFG.EXE, SBEGO.EXE

It also includes the file CTSYN.INI which
usually resides in your Win98 folder and which
is required by SBEINIT.com and the sample
wavetable file DEFAULT.ECW which CTSYN.INI refers
to. I have modified the INI-file to point to
this directory DOSDRV for the wavetable.

BOOTFILE contains a sample AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS
which work with my system. Note that the
           environment variable CTSYN (see AUTOEXEC.BAT)
is set to the directory DOSDRV which now holds
CTSYN.INI (see description for DOSDRV above).

HOWTO contains one textfile that is just a collection of
different articles on this topic found in various
           discussion forums and message boards.
Read this file with NotePad and word wrap switched
           on.

There is also one good explanation on how to resolve
interrupt conflicts by modifying your BIOS settings.
This is an HTML file from the DELL support
homepage. You can view it with any web browser.

4. Installation instructions
--------------------------------
Now ... what do you have to do?
Follow these 3 steps:

a. Unpack this ZIP file into a new folder, e.g.
   C:\DRV\CREATIVE

b. Modify your system files (config.sys, autoexec.bat)
according to the samples from the directory BOOTFILE.

The sample bootfiles use the drive and directory structure
given in a. one step above.
You need to modify them if you have unpacked to a different
   location.
You also need to modify the path of the entry "waveset"
   in the file CTSYN.INI accordingly.

   Keep in mind that
   - You need the line DEVICE=EMS386... from the config.sys,
i.e. you do need an expanded memory manager, and you need
     the original MicroSoft EMM386.EXE !
Qemm, 386Max or any other 3rd party manager will not work!
   - Above line may NOT contain the parameter NOEMS!
EMS is needed by the SBlive driver!

   - All first 4 lines from the autoexec.bat sample have to
be placed in that exact order at the beginning of your own
autoexec.bat file! Load all other drivers (smartdrive,
mouse, ...) AFTER these 4 lines!

c. Reboot your machine and test your soundcard using SBEGO.EXE
   from the directory DOSDRV.

If you experience any problems such as no sound, interrupt conflicts
or else, try to modify the settings for your driver using
SBESET.EXE, or modify your BIOS settings following the instructions
given in the HTML file.

Have fun!!
